Vielleicht hat er mit Bibi und seiner Kamarilla einen Deal gemacht, und die dürfen sich dann in Argentinien Israel 2.0 als ultra-zionistische marktradikale Privatstadt aufbauen, wenn sie von der israelischen Bevölkerung zum Teufel gejagt werden. Platz hätten sie ja in der argentinischen Pampa, und da leben auch nicht so viele Menschen, die man erst umständlich vertreiben müsste.

Konflikt um Grenzgebiet - Venezuela will Region Guyanas annektieren

Die Venezolaner haben abgestimmt: Eine große Mehrheit fordert einen neuen venezolanischen Bundesstaat in der Region Essequibo. Doch die gehört seit Jahrhunderten zum Nachbarstaat Guyana. Ein alter Grenzstreit flammt wieder auf.

Guyana will Klarheit und eine endgültige Grenzziehung von 1899. Das Land hofft auf ein Urteil des Internationalen Gerichtshofs in Den Haag. Dieses steht noch aus. Doch am 1. Dezember 2023, zwei Tage vor dem Referendum bestätigt der UN-Gerichtshof: Venezuela soll jegliche Handlungen unterlassen, die den Status quo ändern würden, bis es eine finale Rechtsprechung des Gerichtes gibt.

Carl Greenidge, der Guyana in der Sache vertritt, sieht das als Erfolg: "Das Gericht hat mit einem einstimmigen Urteil auf Guyanas Antrag reagiert", sagt er. Was als nächstes passiert, wisse er allerdings nicht. "Venezuela ist ein Land, das sehr unberechenbar ist. Aber ich weiß, dass Guyana alle Vorsichtsmaßnahmen treffen muss, um nationale Interessen zu schützen."

Doch wie soll das gehen in dem Land, dass zu den ärmsten Südamerikas gehört und keine Verteidigungserfahrung hat? Als friedliches Volk bezeichnen sich die Menschen. So auch Taxifahrer Gemil aus der Hafenstadt Parika: "Unser Land will gegen niemanden kämpfen." Sie hätten auch nicht die Mittel, um sich Waffen zu beschaffen, sagt er. [...]

Ich hatte mich auch noch gefragt, ob da eine venezolanische Minderheit lebt oder sowas. Aber nein, da lebt relativ zur Größe des Gebietes praktisch niemand:

Wenn man den westlichen Berichten glauben schenken kann, geht's der Venezolanischen Führung da allerdings auch weniger um irgendwelche völkischen Angelegenheiten oder darum, dem venezolanischen Staatsgebiet noch mehr Dschungel und unwegsames Bergland einzuverleiben, sondern vor allem um die Ölvorkommen vor der Küste, auf die natürlich schon ein amerikanischer Konzern Anspruch angemeldet hat.

Ja, vermutlich läuft es letztlich eher auf ein Gerangel an der Küste raus. Allerdings Guyana hat nur ein paar tausend Soldaten und Esequibo ist so schlecht erschlossen, dass Venezuela komfortabel irgendwo einen Stützpunkt an seiner Seite aufstellen kann, ohne dass es praktikabel ist, da jemanden hinzuschicken.
