Close enough, I guess.

Payback time.
Karma is a bitch.

38:22the profits the big banks wall street and the predatory global speculators make for the massive levels of debt
38:28peonage imposed on an underpaid working class including those who owe student loans

39:02biden's request for 715 billion dollars for the defense department
39:07in fiscal year 2020 an 11.3 billion dollar increase
39:14over 2021 will exacerbate the military provocations with

39:31the 81 million americans that struggle to meet basic household expenses the 22 million that lack enough food and
39:38the 11 million that can't make their next house payment are about to hit a wall as the meager
39:46benefits from the covid relief bill runs out and the moratorium is lifted on evictions and foreclosures
39:54the grinding machinery of predatory capitalism and the sadism that defines it will
39:59poison the society as mercilessly under biden as it did when trump was conducting his
40:05twitter presidency these so-called reforms have no more weight
40:10than those peddled by bill clinton and barack obama who biden slavishly served and who also
40:17promised social equality while betraying working men and women
40:23biden is the epitome of the empty amoral creature produced by our system
40:29of legalized bribery those who built our culture of sadism his long political career in congress

44:45have rendered the lives of the working class and the poor invisible and they are as reviled as the ruling

45:04conspiracy theories such as q anon they traffic an emotional outrage often
45:09replacing one outrage with another they provide new forms of identity to replace the identity lost
45:16by tens of millions of americans who have been cast aside this emotional outrage can be harnessed
45:23for laudable causes such as ending police violence but is too often ephemeral
45:29it transforms political debate into grievance protests at best and more often

The collapse of empire
ZitatAlles anzeigen1:13:57
so if you look at the collapse of any imperial power it's a rapacious
1:14:04
out-of-control military machine that's what typified ancient rome
1:14:10
they mounted a 1 million man army that's what doomed the habsburg empire
1:14:16
that's what doomed the kaiser and the german empires would doomed most of the monarchies of europe um
1:14:24
because that those that military apparatus seized complete control and
1:14:31
was was no longer able to be contained and that's where we are
1:14:36
so that's why it's a business it's a good business it don't make any sense it's extremely

1:27:21primary mechanism of control i mean a lot of people don't know that historically in
1:27:27certainly in the rise to power mussolini was far more violent and brutal than the nazis

where comes the sadism from
ZitatAlles anzeigen11:02
why is the malaise of a dying civilization expressed through sadism rather than a kind of
11:10righteous anger and here we must turn to frederick nietzsche

11:23because they have been stripped of agency they lack the power to harm
11:28those who they believe harm them in short there is no cathartic release
11:35risotto is bred from damaged self-esteem it festers and
11:42corrodes the soul the powerless and here nietzsche is writing about christianity as a slave
11:48religion must express their result demo obliquely and surreptitiously
11:54hence the coded racism islamophobia and supposed yearning for a return to
12:00the traditional family and quote-unquote christian values resontimo is produced by feelings of
12:08inferiority failure and worthlessness and this risotto
12:14fueled by self-loathing expresses itself through sadism what nietzsche calls
12:22wrecking the will of those who are weaker or more vulnerable
12:28nietzsche understood that this wrecking the will of others imparts a
12:34perverted sadistic pleasure he writes in on the genealogy of morals that
12:41to see others suffer does one good to make others suffer even more without
12:48cruelty there is no festival and in punishment there is so much that
12:53is festive the resultimo in american society the

31:12to these malevolent forces as engels wrote when one individual inflicts bodily
31:18injury upon another such that death results we call is deed murder but when society places hundreds of
31:25proletarians in such a position that they inevitably meet a too early death and an unnatural death one which is
31:31quite as much a death by violence as that by the sword or bullet
31:36when it deprives thousands of the necessities of life places them under conditions in which
31:42they cannot live forces them to the strong arm of the law to remain in such conditions until that
31:48death ensues which is the inevitable consequence knows that these thousands of victims must

and those old uaw workers of this was back in 2016 voted for bernie sanders in the primary
12:18but they voted for trump uh in the general election why why that swing from a sanders to a trump
12:24i it's because uh the anger towards the democratic party elites is particularly fierce uh because the
12:32betrayal was deeper the democratic party which once took into account the concerns of labor continued after
12:40they betrayed the american working class to speak in that feel you're paying language of liberalism while they thrust a knife
12:47into the back of the american working class and that's what really gave rise to trump um it is a simplistic
12:56to blame uh the uh a rise of a figure like trump on racism
13:01or on russia which is absurd of course the country that interferes most in our electoral process
13:08is not russia china it's israel um uh uh and that interference is
13:15uh so powerful that no administration uh can essentially uh challenge uh
13:22israel israeli policy and biden isn't going to move the embassy back to tel aviv from jerusalem
13:29uh even though that is a flagrant violation of international law so what you are what you saw with trump
13:38was a figure who essentially uh was vulgar crude but but expressed that anger
13:46towards the ruling elites that has gripped the american white working class and of
13:53course what trump has done like all demagogues is single out scapegoats muslims although islamophobia
14:02predated trump uh muslims uh undocumented men and women um
14:10liberals uh uh gblt community etc
14:17and i think it's important to note that trump himself had no real ideology

1:03:34government um you can't and we have to be clear that this isn't
1:03:41israel it's the rabid right wing of israel the racists and they are racists
1:03:51and i saw that because i covered rabine i knew rabin
1:03:56and rabino had no deep love for the palestinians at least recognized that the occupation
1:04:04was destroying israel from the inside which i think it now already has yeah and
1:04:10uh so rabine pushed through oslo and uh and his fiercest opponents were
1:04:18the israel lobby from the united states in particular aipac who uh funded likud at the time
1:04:26and uh hated rabin i mean they were american jews outside rabine's house and hair salia
1:04:32picketing him a bibi was holding rallies with allowing followers to dress rabine in a nazi
1:04:40uniform an effigy of ravine and burn it and of course this led this is dangerous
1:04:45because eventually it led to rabin's assassination and until the day she died
1:04:50leo rabin rabin's widow blamed bibi for his murder and she wasn't wrong so
1:04:57we have to be clear that it's a particular strain now i think the problem is that since they've essentially closed
1:05:02uh the occupied territories off from israel uh there was a point when large numbers
1:05:09of palestinian day workers would come into israel at least there were some kind of contact now there's none
1:05:14um so israel which had at one point a semblance of a kind of p-swing or
1:05:20liberal wing is now really replicated the apartheid state of south africa
1:05:26not only in terms of the way it treats the palestinians but in terms of the overt racism that is expressed by most israelis

The Liberal Class functions for the ruling class
ZitatAlles anzeigenthat whole idea of the liberal class not being the political left that
23:01the liberal class functions as a kind of safety valve in moments of distress and
23:07the reason in a capitalist democracy you tolerate the liberal class is because
23:14they set the parameters of acceptable debate and as soon as critics on the
23:19Left start attacking the structures or the motives of the ruling elites the
23:26liberal class discredits them and pushes them aside the liberal class can critique the excesses but they never
23:33critique the system and you see the classic example of how a liberal class
23:38is supposed to function in a capitalist democracy with the collapse of
23:43capitalism in the 1930s and Roosevelt and Roosevelt's I he has after he after
23:50his death they published his correspondence and his brother was the editor which I've read and it's
23:57fascinating because Roosevelt is keenly aware of the powerful movements the
24:02Progressive Party the labor unions like the CEO the CIO but also the Communist Party who we've
24:10kind of erased from our history but it played an important role in American radicalism and he says if we don't
24:17respond will get revolution and will lose everything and so that's it was
24:25that pressure that led Roosevelt who came from the oligarchic elite to say well if the private sector can't

24:43
the wake of World War one had been decimated destroyed and and you know the

got a phone call and it said this is a Special Investigations Division of the Department of Corrections of the state
27:42of New Jersey are you aware that your students just let us sit down strike in the prison and it was very moving I mean
27:55I really was quite emotional when the phone call ended because they knew even
28:01better than I did what would happen their cells would be strip searched as they were they would all be interrogated
28:07until they found the leaders of the strike which they did and those leaders would be shipped to another prison and put an indefinite solitary confinement
28:13where they remain and yet they rose up anyway and we just of course saw heroic
28:19struggle on the part of incarcerated men and women which ended on September 9th
28:24the anniversary of the 47th anniversary of the Attica prison uprising if you
28:29haven't read heather Thompson's blood on the water read it it is a really amazing
28:35work of the history of the Attica uprising but more importantly how after
28:40that uprising the power leads effectively a demonized african-americans I mean because they
28:46were so frightened
free Alabama movement
ZitatAlles anzeigen29:22
it's an important lesson for all of us that our system is so calcified that reform will not come from within it will
29:29only come from without and as the free Alabama either I don't know if you know
29:35about the free Alabama movement they did a work stoppage 2010 and then they put
29:40the leaders again in indefinite definite solitary confinement but Alabama being
29:46Alabama where the guards make minimum wage it means you can get anything so I'm well they call me on their cell
29:52phones all the time which they're not supposed to have but they said you know the only way to end slavery which is neo
30:01slavery which it is in our prisons is to stop being a slave that we the only
30:06mechanism we have now is to break them economically if you paid prisoners the
30:12minimum wage our entire prison system would collapse it's not it can't be sustained prisoners in Louisiana make
30:19four cents an hour I guess if you're really at the high end you can fight fires in California for a dollar an hour
30:26New Jersey they make 22 cents an hour that's twenty eight dollars a month I've
30:32got students who you know spend twenty thirty forty years in prison work 40-hour weeks get out and not only do
30:39they not have Social Security they're in debt it was now you you get in debt in prison so I think that on you know
30:48though people who come out of marginal communities I certainly find my students in the prison have a kind of hype or
30:54awareness of the fact that we live in a failed democracy
Bernie Sanders
ZitatAlles anzeigen31:06
was my both mine and Shama salons problem with Sanders we we did an event
31:12with Bernie and Bill McKibben and Naomi Klein the night before the climate March
31:18in New York and Shama kept pushing Bernie not to run as a Democrat and I
31:25found Bernie his answer quite illuminating because he said well if I
31:31do that I'll like Ralph Nader and he's not wrong what he was saying is that if I defy the
31:36Democratic Party establishment they will destroy me
universities produce systems managers

36:02Princeton and other elite universities are just overcompensated fund raisers
36:08Princeton students are far too deferential to Authority and half of the
36:13Princeton trustee board should be in prison I wasn't invited back next I
36:23actually got an email that day I think they they wanted it clear that they'd
36:28read the story but of course it's true I mean Princeton is just a corporation like most of these universities you know
36:37Harvard the same they produce systems managers the largest major at both Harvard and Princeton is computer
36:44science the humanities are withering away all of those mechanisms that teach
36:50us not what to think but how to think I mean they're not wrong that an education is subversive it's designed to make you
36:58ask questions but the system only wants people who will perpetuate it

46:18recipients in our welfare system were children the deregulation of the FCC
46:23which has allowed five or six corporations to seize control of the airwaves what about 90 percent of most
46:30Americans watch and listen to ripping down the firewalls between investment
46:36and commercial banks which precipitated the global crisis that was all Clinton and Clinton did corporate bidding by the
46:4490s the Democratic Party had fund raising parity with the Republicans and when Barack Obama ran in 2008 he got
46:49more but that created the faux liberal class a fake liberal class there used to
46:55be a liberal wing of the Democratic Party but is long gone and so you have people who continue to
47:01speak in that feel your pain language but are sold out working men and women and that's where a lot of this white
47:07rage comes from in the white working-class Baldwin James Baldwin who
47:13I love and I don't really think you can understand America if you haven't read Baldwin but he writes about why is it
47:20that white working men have are susceptible to a midlife crisis in a way
47:26black men or not and he says it's because when you're black you realize that the game is fixed whereas if you're
47:33white you're more susceptible believe the myth of a meritocracy and you get ahead and then you wake up and realize
47:40it's fixed and that's what's happened and so it is that sense of entitlement
47:48colliding with economic and political reality that they don't matter
47:54and Trump of course fed upon that the whole idea that Trump was elected
48:00because of Co me or the Podesta emails or Russian BOTS
48:07is frightening because it is a way of refusing to address the massive social
48:13inequality that has distorted our system you can't maintain a democracy in an
48:18oligarchy Aristotle knew it I mean Aristotle said once you have an oligarchy your choice is between tyranny

Verstehe. Doch was sonst?
