Naher Osten [Sammelthread]

Also ich fürchte mich, allerdings eher wegen "or for any other war (which is highly unlikely)".

US strikes 3 Iranian oil tankers after saying warships were targeted with ballistic missiles

CAIRO (AP) — U.S. forces struck three Iranian oil tankers after Navy warships were targeted with ballistic missiles, the American military said Saturday, warning that it would “if necessary, destroy Iran’s limited and exposed oil fleet.” Experts called it a dangerous escalation after Iran’s previous attacks at sea targeted commercial shipping.

Iran says it struck back in response

Iran’s state broadcaster said later Saturday that Iran targeted three oil tankers and three American vessels in response to the U.S. strikes. This couldn’t be immediately confirmed.

  • Der letzte Halbsatz "...and the war will cotinue to spiral out of your control" ist allerdings lustig, denn tatsächlich erscheint es eher so, als hätte Majestäts Kriegssekretär Hegseth den Kriegdie militärische Spezialvorwärtsverteidigungsoperation gegen Iran von Anfang an nicht unter Kontrolle gehabt, sondern einfach blind darauf vertraut, dass sein Gott der Herr schon mit dem goldenen Kaiser und seinen kaiserlichen Vorwärtsverteidigungsstreitkräften sein werde, wenn sie zusammen mit Werte- und Demokratiepartner Israel und dessen most moral army in the world gegen die Gefolgschaft des falschen Propheten in der südwestasiatischen Barbarei in den heiligen Krieg ziehen.

(By the way - Warum nicht einfach mal eine schöne Ölpest im persischen Golf verursachen?)

Based on American history, however, there is a path forward. Not conscription or a draft in a world war-era sense, but enlistment through a “debt forgiveness program.”

The average American aged 18 to 34 carries more than $40 thousand in non-mortgage debt across student loans, credit card balances, auto loans, and personal loans, with some estimates go as high as $100 thousand.

Saudi Arabia’s East-West Oil Pipeline Hit By Houthis, Photos Appear to Show

Fire and smoke can be seen coming from Saudi Arabia's main East-West oil pipeline after a suspected strike by Houthi militants, who have been attacking the kingdom, according to reports citing video and satellite imagery.

Sentinel-3 satellite imagery shows a black smoke plume over the pipeline route across the desert between Medina and Mahd adh Dhahab. Meanwhile, NASA’s FIRMS system also showed clustered thermal anomalies in the area.

Scoop: MBS urged Trump to strike Houthis amid Red Sea threat

Saudi Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman (MBS) called President Trump twice Thursday, urging him to launch strikes against the Houthis as the Iran-backed group closed in on a vital Red Sea chokepoint, two U.S. officials told Axios.

Trump declined, and U.S. officials stressed the administration has no plans to intervene directly against the Houthis for now.

    Zitat

Behind the scenes: Saudi Arabia's request for direct U.S. military action marks a sharp reversal from July, when Riyadh told Washington it could handle the Houthis on its own.

As the fighting intensified, however, the Saudis began seeking increasing levels of U.S. support.

U.S. military and civilian officials have told their Saudi counterparts in recent weeks that Trump's directive is to keep American forces focused on Iran and the Strait of Hormuz — and avoid opening another front, sources familiar with the discussions said.

Houthi fighters arrived in Mocha on Thursday to find Yemeni battalions that were severely depleted – their rosters were filled with “ghost names” receiving salaries, and the actual strength of the army was only about 20% of what it was on paper, a Western source with knowledge of the operations told CNN.

US officials met Iran-backed Houthis in Oman over the weekend, sources say

Sept 15 (Reuters) - U.S. officials met representatives of Yemen's Houthis in Oman over the weekend, five sources familiar with the matter said, ‌days after the Iran-backed militia seized a strategic stretch of the Red Sea coast in a sweeping offensive that routed Saudi-backed forces.

The meeting, which has not been made public, was held at the U.S. Embassy in Muscat, three of the sources said on the condition of anonymity. Two sources said that Oman's government, a longtime regional mediator, helped organise the meeting.

    Zitat

In the meeting, which one source said took place on Sunday, the Houthis told U.S. officials that they had no intention of attacking American vessels and that they were committed to the 2025 ceasefire with the U.S., two sources said.

One of the sources, a Yemeni, said the militia group also said they would not attack Israeli ships or any commercial vessels, except those belonging to Saudi Arabia.

According to two of the sources, the U.S. side was represented by embassy personnel.

    Zitat

Asked whether the U.S. had met with the Houthis in Oman, a State Department spokesperson did not confirm the meeting, but said safeguarding freedom of navigation in the Red Sea and preventing the export of terrorism from the Middle East were core U.S. interests.

Aramco Hunts for Fuel Supply in the Mediterranean After Attacks

Oil giant Saudi Aramco has been looking to secure thousands of tons of diesel in the Mediterranean after a series of attacks on its energy facilities over the past few weeks.

The pickup in activity predates attacks last week on a pipeline that feeds oil refineries on the kingdom’s Red Sea coast, but coincide with reported incidents involving the fuel-making plants over the past few months. Sometimes companies will buy replacement cargoes if their normal source of supply isn’t available.

Russia, China end mandate for independent monitoring of UN sanctions on Iran

Ich mag, dass Reuters hier schreibt "reviving their argument", so als hätten sie gedacht, dass China und Russland zwischenzeitlich "zur Vernunft" also zur westlichen Sicht gekommen wären.
