Trump’s sanctions on ICC prosecutor have halted tribunal’s work
Alles anzeigen[...] The February order bans Khan and other non-Americans among the ICC’s 900 staff members from entering the U.S., which is not a member of the court. It also threatens any person, institution or company with fines and prison time if they provide Khan with “financial, material, or technological support.”
The sanctions are hampering work on a broad array of investigations, not just the one into Israel’s leaders.
The ICC had been investigating atrocities in Sudan and had issued arrest warrants for former Sudanese President Omar al-Bashir on charges that include genocide. That probe has ground to a halt even as reports mount of new atrocities in Sudan, according to an attorney representing ICC prosecutor Eric Iverson, who is fighting the sanctions in U.S. courts. Iverson filed a federal lawsuit against the Trump administration seeking protection from the sanctions.
Iverson “cannot do, what I would describe as, basic lawyer functions,” said Allison Miller, who is representing Iverson in the suit.
American staffers at the organization, like Iverson, have been warned by its attorneys that they risk arrest if they return home to visit family, according to ICC officials. Six senior officials have left the court over concerns about sanctions.
One reason the the court has been hamstrung is that it relies heavily on contractors and non-governmental organizations. Those businesses and groups have curtailed work on behalf of the court because they were concerned about being targeted by U.S. authorities, according to current and former ICC staffers.
Microsoft, for example, cancelled Khan’s email address, forcing the prosecutor to move to Proton Mail, a Swiss email provider, ICC staffers said. His bank accounts in his home country of the U.K. have been blocked.
Microsoft did not respond to a request for comment.
Staffers at an NGO that plays an integral role in the court’s efforts to gather evidence and find witnesses said the group has transferred money out of U.S. bank accounts because they fear it might be seized by the Trump administration.
Senior leadership at two other U.S.-based human rights organizations told the AP that their groups have stopped working with the ICC. A senior staffer at one told the AP that employees have stopped replying to emails from court officials out of fear of triggering a response from the Trump administration.
The cumulative effect of such actions has led ICC staffers to openly wonder whether the organization can survive the Trump administration, according to ICC officials who spoke on condition of anonymity out of fear of reprisal.

Die vom israelischen Militär angekündigte Großoffensive "Gideons Streitwagen" im Gazastreifen - der Name bezieht sich auf die Figur des Gideon in der Hebräischen Bibel - läuft in mehreren Stufen ab.
Gideon hat gegen die Midianiter gekämpft. Ein weiteres Volk, das in der biblischen Erzählungn von den Israeliten ausgelöscht wird (Jungfrauen überleben).

Die Stimmung scheint gerade etwas zu kippen. Aber wer ist denn dieses "wir" das Gaza ausblendet? Es gibt Demonstranten an Unis können ja schwer gemeint sein. Was deutsche Politik und Medien abziehen geht ja weit über Heuchelei hinaus, es wird juristisch verfolgt und verklagt und diffamiert, wer sich gegen israelische Kriegsverbrechen engagiert.

Das gute an Lanz als staatstragender Katalysator der öffentlich inszenierten Elitendebatte in Deutschland ist, dass er seinen Hals wie eine Eule um 180° wenden kann, und das sofort wieder vergessen haben wird, sobald der Chefredakteur der jüdischen Allgemeinen und/oder eine frei gelassene israelische Geisel in seiner Sendung sitzt und einmal "Chamas" sagt.

In what he described as an emergency press conference to address criticism from his own base, Smotrich laid out the Netanyahu government’s genocidal agenda and explained why the appearance of allowing aid is necessary on a strategic level. “The [aid] that will enter Gaza in the coming days is the tiniest amount. A handful of bakeries that will hand out pita bread to people in public kitchens. People in Gaza will get a pita and a food plate, and that's it. Exactly what we are seeing in the videos: people standing in line and waiting to have someone serve them, with some soup plate,” Smotrich said.
“Truth be told, until the last of the hostages returns, we should also not let water into the Gaza Strip. But the reality is that if we do that, the world will force us to halt the war immediately, and to lose. It would be winning the battle, and losing the war. I'm committed to winning the war,” Smotrich declared. “We are disassembling Gaza, and leaving it as piles of rubble, with total destruction [which has] no precedent globally. And the world isn't stopping us. There are pressures. There are those who attack [us]; they are trying to [make us] stop; they are not succeeding. You know why they aren't succeeding? Natürlich ist das Irre an der Situation, dass Netanjahu nicht nur davon ausgeht, dass er in der inner-israelischen Kommunikation alles offen sagen kann, sondern damit bisher einigermaßen recht hat, langwierige Gerichtsverfahren vielleicht mal beiseite. Mir scheint aber die Israelis sind entweder wirklich eingeknickt oder es gab noch gar keinen Druck (auf den sie reagieren) und sie waren selbst überrascht wie lange man sie hat machen lassen. Dann sind wir wieder bei dem hier:
Ich denke, das könnte doch ein Unterschied dazu sein, wie es unter Biden/Harris laufen würde. Irgendwann käme die Ansage die Hilfslieferungen müssen wieder zugelassen werden (wenn auch auf niedrigem Niveau):

Unter Trump kommt die Ansage vielleicht nie und ich vermute unseren Regierungen ist das noch nicht klar.
In jedem Fall würde man denken, der Besuch von Trump bei den arabischen Herrschern hat etwas damit zu tun.
Natürlich muss Netanjahu das den blutrünstigsten Teilen seiner Koalition entsprechend verkaufen.
