    Ich denke, wir können von der üblichen hortikulturellen Definition von internationaler Gemeinschaft ausgehen. Noch ein Dreivierteljahr bis zur Europawahl, da sind wir Borrell vermutlich frühstens los.


    Ich bin mir ja einigermaßen sicher, dass unser NATO-Jens mit dieser Aussage nicht meinte, dass er die potenzielle (bzw. defacto schon erfolgte) Ausweiteung der transatlantischen Einflusssphäre auf die Ukraine als Begründung der Russen für ihren Angriff akzeptiert, sondern dass er das lediglich erzählte um zu illustrieren, wie scheinheilig der Russe das als Grund vorgeschoben habe, um der NATO ein Angebot machen zu können, von dem er schon wusste, dass sie es nicht akzeptieren würde.

    Zunächst vielleicht "audiences conditioned to believe the SS’s primary task was genocide" - die SS war eine der NS-Organisationen, die mit der Eliminierung von Bevölkerungsteilen in den eroberten Gebieten betraut war. Bin mir nicht sicher, was er damit sagen will.


    Sein Argument die ausländischen Waffen-SS-Verbände waren ja nur aus verwaltungstechnischen Gründen Teil der Waffen-SS, sie hätten ja genauso gut in der Wehrmacht sein können, ist putzig, weil jedenfalls ein englisch-sprachiges Publikum im Allgemeinen darauf konditioniert ist, erstmal jeden deutschen Soldaten als Nazi anzusehen.


    Ich nehme an das bezieht sich darauf, dass in anderen Teilen der deutschen Kolonialsphäre Freiwillige als Wehrmachtsverbände aufgestellt wurden also zum Beispiel das Russische Schutzkorps in Serbien. In Galizien war es eben die SS, die die Freiwilligen organisierte. Nun zum einen gab es natürlich die Alternative zu den ukrainischen Nationalisten zu gehen - nicht zwangsläufig mit besserem Ausgang - wenn im Vordergrund stand für die Ukraine oder gegen die Sowjets zu kämpfen, insofern muss schon das Interesse bestanden haben sich deutscher Führung zu unterstellen. Und dann ändert das natürlich nichts daran, dass man als Teil der Waffen-SS auch von SS-Leuten geführt, organisiert, ausgebildet wurde. Also selbst wenn explizite ideologische Schulung 1943 kein Thema mehr gewesen sein sollte, was ich nicht vermute, dann wurde man Teil dieser Kultur und wurde möglicherweise auch nach Passung selektiert.


    Der Rest führt dann einige Punkte an - unter anderem, wenn es der Russe sagt, kann es kaum stimmen - warum die Waffen-SS-Division Galizien zu Unrecht oder zumindestens ohne klare Beweise Verbrechen beschuldigt wird. Ähnlich wie mit der Deschênes-Kommission ist da offenbar einiges umstritten. Vielleicht hat die kanadische Praxis ihre Waffen-SS-Vetaranen abzuschirmen ja etwas damit zu tun?

    War es Teil des ukrainischen Verhandlungsangebot in Istanbul, dass die Krim demilitarisiert wird, weil das die logische Konsequenz aus Neutralität ist? Dann waren die weiter auseinander als ich dachte.

    Gibt immer noch Sachen, für die man sich in Kanada entschuldigen kann. Hunka hatte die Aufmerksamkeit auf die Universität von Alberta gelenkt, der ein anderer Waffen-SS-Veteran als Kanzler vorstand:

    Es ist wohl auch nicht so richtig klar, weil die Situation zum ersten Mal aufgetreten ist. Ich denke in den nächsten Tagen wird es gar nicht erst den Versuch geben Gesetze durchzubringen:

    Aber sollte sich das angesichts der zerstrittenen republikanischen Fraktion länger hinziehen, könnte man vielleicht Wege suchen, den Gesetzgebungsprozess wieder aufzunehmen.


    Insofern bleiben die Ukrainehilfsgelder wohl erstmal blockiert.

    The Tabir took place from the 16 -29 of July. Our camp theme was “Today a CYMivec – Today a Defender”. Our Camp was titled “TO VICTORY”. This was very fitting given the current situation in Ukraine. It was a main theme throughout the camp, outlining the importance of defending Ukraine and our role in supporting Ukrainе as an organization, and as a CYMivci.


    The children were energized and with great enthusiasm took part in a variety of craft activities as well as singing. Our camp was filled with children who loved to sing, and each day it was very important to sing their favorite songs, specifically: “ Our Father Bandera”. [...]

    Man kann sich vorstellen, wie Generationen ukrainischer Kinder die Figuren und Organisationen der Nationalisten nahegebracht wurden, vermutlich bereinigt von allen negative Aspekten präsentiert als Freiheits- und Widerstandskämpfer. Auf gegenläufige Informationen als Korrektiv werden sie kaum gestoßen sein.


    Nach den Lagern, die rechte Gruppen für Kinder und Jugendliche in der Ukraine aufgezogen haben, sieht es jedenfalls nicht aus:
