ZitatIt's remarkable that a week after Election Day, the House is still not yet called for Republicans.
Ach ne.
ZitatReported vote continues to trickle in slowly in California, which has been commonplace in every recent election. The state takes longer to count its mail votes.
The other three uncalled races are in Colorado, Maine and Alaska. Maine and Alaska have headed to ranked-choice voting tabulations because no one got 50% of the vote. Maine's 2nd congressional district is expected to be decided Wednesday. Alaska will conduct its retabulation Nov. 23.

ZitatElon Musk said that the US economy was “probably” in a recession — a judgment at odds with economists and available data — and cautioned companies to watch costs and cash flows.

ZitatThe Democratic Party and Joe Biden are not the lesser evil, but rather, as Glen Ford pointed out, “the more effective evil.”
[...]
The decisions of politicians like Biden have a staggering human cost, not only for the poor, workers and the shrinking middle class but for millions of people in the Middle East, millions of families ripped apart by mass incarceration, millions more forced into bankruptcy by our mercenary for-profit medical system where corporations are legally permitted to hold sick children hostage while their frantic parents bankrupt themselves to save them, millions who became addicted to opioids and hundreds of thousands who died from them, millions denied welfare assistance, and all of us barreling toward extinction because of a refusal to curb the greed and destructive power of the fossil fuel industry, which has raked in $2.8 billion a day in profit over the last 50 years.
Biden, morally vacuous and of limited intelligence, is responsible for more suffering and death at home and abroad than Donald Trump. But the victims in our Punch-and-Judy media shows are rendered invisible. And that is why the victims despise the whole superstructure and want to tear it down.
[...]
ZitatBiden and other establishment politicians are not actually calling for democracy. They are calling for civility. They have no intention of extracting the knife thrust into our backs. They hope to paper over the rot and the pain with the decorum of the polite, measured talk they used to sell us the con of neoliberalism.

https://news.usni.org/2022/11/…op-draws-chinese-protests
ZitatThe Tuesday passage of a U.S. guided missile cruiser past a disputed island chain in the South China Sea has drawn protests from Beijing and claims that the People’s Liberation Army expelled the ship from Chinese territorial waters.
[...]
According to U.S. 7th Fleet, USS Chancellorsville (CG-62) sailed past the Spratly Island chain on Tuesday as part of a freedom of navigation operation.
“USS Chancellorsville (CG-62) asserted navigational rights and freedoms in the South China Sea near the Spratly Islands, consistent with international law. At the conclusion of the operation, USS Chancellorsville exited the excessive claim area and continued operations in the South China Sea,” reads the statement from 7th Fleet.
“The freedom of navigation operation (“FONOP”) upheld the rights, freedoms, and lawful uses of the sea recognized in international law by challenging restrictions on innocent passage imposed by the People’s Republic of China, Vietnam and Taiwan.”(In diesem Fall sind es drei unterschiedliche Länder.)

Pushing Biden to the left:
Rail unions decry Biden’s call for Congress to block strike. Businesses praise the plan
President Joe Biden was in the unusual position Tuesday of being praised by business interests and attacked by his normal allies in the labor movement after calling for Congress to move immediately to block a strike by more than 100,000 union members at the nation’s freight railroads set for the end of next week.
Biden said he is sympathetic to the union’s demand, but he said a rail strike would cause too much economic damage and must be avoided.
“I share workers’ concern about the inability to take leave to recover from illness or care for a sick family member,” he said in his statement. “No one should have to choose between their job and their health – or the health of their children.”
He said that the tentative deals that were rejected by rank-and-file members of the unions were good deals for the workers, even in the face of those concerns. They include 24% wage increases over the four-year life of the deals, the biggest pay increases won by the unions in more than 50 years. Biden pointed out that union leadership had agreed to the tentative deals in September when they were negotiated and called them good deals for the rank-and-file members.
But the membership of four of the unions rejected the tentative deals. The other eight unions are prepared to honor their picket lines and go on strike as well without a deal or Congressional action, and Biden’s voiced sympathy for the demands about sick time didn’t satisfy some of the union leaders Tuesday.
“It is not enough to ‘share workers’ concerns,’” said a statement from the Brotherhood of Maintenance of Way Employes Division, which represents about 23,000 track maintenance workers, making it the third largest rail union. “A call to Congress to act immediately to pass legislation that adopts tentative agreements that exclude paid sick leave ignores the railroad workers’ concerns.” [...]

A Propos...
Pushing Biden to the left:
Jetzt wo die jungen wilden "progressives" im Kongress ihre Ämter für weitere zwei Jahre sichern konnten, wird Biden nun aber wirklich mal ordentlich to the left gepushed.
